There are tons of family friendly activities in Steamboat Springs for all age ranges that help bring out the kid in you, too. See if you don’t find yourself smiling when you’re tubing down a hill in the snow or taking your kids down the slopes, going for a sleigh ride or letting them entertain themselves at the skateboard park or bike park.
Kids Ski Free
“Steamboat’s Kids Ski Free™ and Grandkids Ski Free programs allow children 12 years of age and under to ski free the same number of days as their parents and grandparents when parents and grandparents purchase a 5-or-more day adult lift ticket at regular prices.” – Steamboat.com
Tubing – Summer
In the summer there’s no better way to cool off than taking an inner tube down the Yampa River. You can drop in above town and float for 2-3 hours and pull out at the library, with the C hole, or continue to the Transportation Center. Make sure water levels are safe before you head down, but it’s a blast for the whole family.
Tubing Winter
In the winter, you can go tubing at Howelson Hill or Saddleback Ranch. Both have a magic carpet you can ride to the top so you don’t have to wear yourself out before the excitement of flying down the hill.
Sleigh Rides
There are several organizations that offer sleigh rides and sleigh ride dinners. Try Saddleback Ranch, Bar Lazy L Ranch, Sunset Ranch or Ragnar’s. You will feel like you are back in the old west.
Dog Sledding
Learn to drive your own dog sled team as you head out for a two-hour journey of a lifetime at Grizzle-T Dog & Sled Works. You’ll learn the names of your dogs and feel what it’s like to travel at the speed of dog as these amazing animals show you some of the most exquisite country in Colorado. If you’re nervous about driving, snuggle into a sled bag and let a guide take you out around Stagecoach Reservoir.
Skateboard Park: The new Bear River Skateboard Park was built with funds raised primarily by local kids. The park at the end of the bike trail offers lines for all ability levels. Kids can wear themselves out here.
Bike Park: Prepare yourself for some of Steamboat’s finest single-track at the Bike Park located at Howelson Hill.
Skateboard Park:
Botanical Gardens: If you want to overwhelm your senses with color and fragrance, a walk through the Botanical Gardens is perfect for you. There are guided tours or you can wander at your own pace. Sit on open grassy knolls and listen to free concerts that happen throughout the summer.
Great American Laughingstock Theater: If you love the outdoors and you love theater, be sure to catch a show at Spring Creek or the Library yard. Bring a picnic dinner and watch the sun set as world-class actors from Steamboat and New Zealand bring Shakespeare, musicals and original works to life. Shows are all ages. Dogs welcome.
