Is Steamboat For You?

July 17, 2009

If you answer yes to any of the following questions, then Steamboat is a match for you.

  • Do you enjoy wide open views of mountains and valleys?
  • Would you rather be hiking, biking, skiing, tubing or fishing than sitting in front of a computer?
  • Would you like to be able to open your door to wildflowers, fresh powder days, aspens and pine trees?
  • Are you looking for a place to live where there are year-round outdoor activities for the entire family?
  • Is a good school system important to you?
  • Do you believe in community?
  • Do you appreciate good value?

The Yampa Valley curse says that once you visit Steamboat you’ll never be able to leave. While some attribute their years in Steamboat to a curse, it is more likely the incredible scenery, a feeling of small town values and a willingness to help one another. Sitting at 6,900 feet, Steamboat is sprinkled with aspens that glow in the fall. Hundred of thousands of acres of forest service land allow exploration of trails dusted with columbines, Indian paintbrush, lupine, deer, bears, rabbits, eagles and hawks.

In the winter, Mt. Werner becomes the focus of town with skiing and snowboarding. Snow shoeing offers solitude, while hockey, cross country skiing and ice fishing are great solo or family activities.

In the summer, hiking, mountain biking, tubing, fishing, swimming, soaking in the hot springs, watching hot air balloons fill long warm days. When it’s back to school, Steamboat has an excellent educational system as well as arts programs for kids including Perry Mansfield Performing Arts Camp.

Until recently, Steamboat has remained a hidden gem off the I-70 corridor and nestled into mountains, which is why real estate has remained low compared to resort towns such as Aspen and Vail. With a variety of houses, ranches and condos, there’s property for every type of person.

So if you answered yes, the following blogs will guide you through the steps of finding the right home, buying real estate in Steamboat, and help get you settled into a new life in Steamboat.

Top Reasons to Buy Your Vacation Home in Steamboat Springs, Colorado – #4

Reason # 4

Diversity of Property Types

Within thirty minutes of town you can be living on a ranch or in a ski-in/ski-out condo. What Steamboat has to offer that so many other places don’t is land.

Ranch parcels of over 1,000 acres suit those who want to head back to a more rustic way of life, while ski-in/ski-out condos work best for those who never miss a powder day.
Downtown keeps you close to shopping and restaurants, while communal ranches like Marabou have their own community complete with a home theatre, kids entertainment room, on-site massage, pool and hot tub. Townhouses are great for vacationing as are condos on and off the mountain.

Just out of town with wide open views are small ranchettes with 35 acres filled with aspens, maybe bordering a river or covered with wildflowers.

There are so many options to fulfill those who prefer to be more secluded as well as those who want to be in the heart of town.
